GPS-Receiver Rubidium Portable – GRP
Reference frequency outputs: 5.0 MHz /10.0 MHz / 2.048 MHz / 2.048 Mbits;
10E-12 frequency accuracy

It’s always the same- after the installing of a base station of cellular networks or a telecommunication network node there are coming up doubts during the initial operation: What measurement system is the most adequate?

Even at high performance measurement systems the results of the different devices vary because the oscillators with the quality of 10E-6…10E-9 used in them are not absolute and, in most of the cases, they have been calibrated last some time ago.

For this case the GPS Receiver Rubidium Portable GRP with integrated GPS receiver manufactured by MEINBERG Funkuhren has been developed. In a small compact casing there are the rubidium-atomic frequency standard, the GPS module GPS167SV, a power supply unit and output amplifier cards for 5.0 MHz, 10.0 MHz, 2.048 MHz and 2.048 Mbits (1.544 MHz and 1.544 Mbits).

These reference frequencies of accuracy better than 1.5x10E-11 (better than 2x10E-12 with GPS receiver) make it possible to synchronize the local measurement devices and to transfer it to a uniform standard reference, so the results of the measurement can be taken for absolute.

After having installed / started the reference standard it can be linked to a GPS antenna at home, in the garage or in the laboratory and the rubidium oscillator and the eventually existing Offset will be calibrated automatically thanks to the Cesium primary standards in GPS satellites. This process takes about 20 minutes up to some hours and after having succeeded will be signalled by a LED.

The technologies and GPS antennas developed by Meinberg make it possible to use a cable of up to 250m length without needing to add any amplifiers between the device and the GPS antenna when using a RG58 cable. Like this a low-cost, professional GPS receiver can be offered on the market.

After having processed the tasks described above the GPS receiver can be used as a calibration reference in the laboratory and for measurements. For mobile use and in intermittent operation its reliability/ accuracy is still good enough for measuring the network clock quality accordingly to G.812 in telecommunication-/ data transmission networks and/or as a pleisochrone source to synchronize the data transmission devices (MUXER, etc.)

For on-site services a so-called “Mobile Antenna-System” is available.

The GPS Receiver Portable is sold by the enterprise UNVERDROSS-TECHNIK, a specialist in TIME + FREQUENCY products for more than 20 years.
